Master Records

There are five kinds of records, all linked to each other (where possible, the index cards are in accordance with the international standards):

  • National movements

The database’s core is the index card concerning the organisation, association, party, group or individual.
The input of the data concerning the intermediary structures and persons linked to the national movements is carried out according to the International Standard Archival Authority Record for Corporate Bodies, Persons and Families (ISAAR(CPF)).

  • Bibliography

This section refers to the publications of and about the intermediary structures and persons. The General International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD(G)) is used for the input of the data.

  • Archival guide

This section gathers information on archives and documentation of and about the intermediary structures and persons concerned. The General International Standard Archival Description ISAD(G)) is applied for the input of those data.

  • Directory

This database section describes the research and/or heritage institutes with national and regional movements as (part of their) field of research. The International Standard for Institutions with Archival Holdings (ISDIAH) is applied for the input of data.

  • Context

Organisations and activists operate within a certain context: people, country, region, and language. This constitutes another database section. For the input of data concerning those entities, a master record sui generis is used. First some basic data are provided such as the name of the entity in the relevant languages, political, geographic and cultural settings, and quantitative data. On a second level the political and territorial history and the history of the national movement is given consideration. Finally space is allocated for a map and symbol (flag).
